The dutch Hip-Hop scene

Hip-Hop is now a big genre all over the world. A lot of people love to listen to Hip-Hop now that’s different because 20 years ago it wasn’t that popular. It was started in the united states and now people from the whole world are listening to it and now a lot of people are rapping. It is also done it different languages. In Europe Hip-Hop is very big in France, England and Germany. Now Hip-Hop is also become big in Holland. First most of the rappers were rapping it English and big names where Postmen (my nephew was also in that group) Uni-q and E-Life. Now the rappers that are rapping in Dutch are more popular then the rappers that are rapping English. Only the rappers that are rapping in Dutch won’t get big in other countries than Holland, Belgium, Surinam and the Antilles.
Like I said now the rappers that are rapping dutch are more popular and that is something from the last 4, 5 years. Everyone in Holland nowadays knows Ali B and Lange Frans. Those are the more commercial names. The ‘pure’ Hip-Hop heads like names as Winne and Jiggy Djé more. There is one big Hip-Hop record company and that is Top Notch. Top Notch is founded by Kees de Koning in 1995 and most of the Hip-Hop that is knows he has brought to the people. Almost of every young rapper wants Top Notch to sign him or her. De Dichter want that also but I don’t think that is necessary for him. Now with the internet you can do a lot more for yourself as artist. You don’t need a (big) record company anymore because a lot of names that became popular did that on their own. Someone like Hef became very popular and on youtube he got with his last video (Op een missie) more than 1 million views. On his last cd De Dichter produced one track called Vergeef Me. Hef also joined the label off Jiggy Djé named Noahs Ark. Noahs Ark is the second biggest Hip-Hop record company now.

For De Dichter it is important that if he wants to join a record company he have to do more than artists had to a few years ago for themselves. You won’t get that easy a a contract and the investments isn’t the same. But now Hip-Hop is bigger than ever and more rappers are coming on tv on programs like De Wereld Draait Door or TMF. So that is good thing for now. Dutch Hip-Hop is getting more popular with every day. Also on the big festivals that are held in Holland there are more Dutch Hip-Hop acts than ever. Festivals like Lowlands, Park, Pinkpop and a lot more.
